Outsmarting Cancer with lifestyle

While many of us realize that sound nutrition is a powerful ally in the fight against obesity, heart disease, and diabetes, cancer isn’t always first in our minds. We assume that our genetics will either protect us or (we hope not) seal our fate. But a study released this week reminds us of just the opposite. [...]

The eggrolls are coming!

Eggrolls are one thing I never thought I’d be blogging about. First, I don’t eat eggrolls. (In my book, deep fried = nono.) Secondly, they fall into the “can’t possibly make those yourself” category.  Yet, thanks to the Hungry Girl website, which is packed with fun, fat-slashed recipes, I have learned otherwise.

I got this eggroll recipe in my [...]

What I ate today

People ask me all the time, so what do YOU eat? Well, I follow the Nutrition Solutions foundations just like I teach all my clients! No point preaching it if I can’t walk the walk, right? Here is what I ate today, 2/20. I actually didn’t plan on logging it today, so it’s not premeditated, I [...]

Coffee and trans fat: recent research

So what’s the story on my favorite morning pick-me-up? Thankfully, more good news! After tracking coffee habits and stroke risk for tens of thousands of American women, experts agree that coffee confers a protective benefit against stroke. Earlier similar studies have attributed a protective  against diabetes as well, so no need to give up your morning [...]

My Valentine

I try to keep the blog on-topic, but today I’ll let one slide.

My valentine will always be… my amazing husband Valentin. No one in the world makes me as happy, and I’m so glad to share all our days together. All the readers should appreciate Val as the original recipe guinea pig. Thank him that the [...]

Beets and Kale: How the heck….?

One of my clients told me she was interested in making the roasted beet salad mentioned on 1/26, but had never cooked beets before. If you’re similarly intimidated, fear not! These little ruby babies are easy to prepare.

Step 1: Cut off the leafy tops. (They’re edible too, but mine weren’t in good shape.)

Step 2: Peel the [...]

Rachel’s cottage cheese, Nance’s Wing Sauce, Gnu bars, LightLife Pepperoni

Variety is the spice of life. Thus I’m always trying new food products that pique my interest.  Here’s a sampling of my latest …..well, samplings.

Rachel’s Cottage Cheese:

This is a new product I spotted in the dairy section of my regular grocery. Looking a lot like a yogurt container, at first I didn’t realize it [...]

Fear of change

I have a few words on a recurring theme that has come up a few times recently. Another mental strategy post, since I haven’t had one in a while.

Change is hard.

Especially changing your eating habits, which have taken (insert age here) years for you to develop and settle into. You are used to eating certain things, [...]
