“It’s All Good” Vegetarian Product Review

I have no intentions of going vegetarian, rest assured! But I still try a fair number of vegetarian-geared foods. Why? They tend to be convenient, low fat sources of protein, and reducing meat intake may be a good thing to prevent some chronic diseases. Plus, that way I can also give recommendations on what I liked (or didn’t.)

Today’s experiment involved a “Veggie Pulled Chik’n” by a company called “It’s all good”. Cute name, nice package, and respectable stats. Mostly I was curious because I’ve never seen the brand before. The package cost $4 and change, and had 2 servings, enough to fill 2 sandwiches. I popped it in the microwave for 2 minutes, and used 1/2 the package to stuff a Toufayan’s Low carb pita on my way out the door.

As for the taste it was very moist, sweet and saucy, but could have used more kick. Next time I’ll probably give it a shake of crushed red pepper. The texture wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as “meaty” as the real deal. What I did like is the pure convenience, low fat (2g) and calories (120 per serving) but lots of protein (17 g), and the fact that I could yank it from the fridge and have a hot (and healthy) bbq sandwich in under 3 minutes.  I still prefer slow cooker real pulled chicken or pork, but this is definitely a viable alternative.

As almost-instant dinners go, I’d prefer it over any frozen meal, that’s for sure. I’ll buy it again. The cost also is a factor, if it goes on sale I’m definitely more inclined to pick it up. Also a plus: the shelf life is decent (this package was good for a month past the date I bought it), so I like that I could buy it and stick in the fridge for a while and have in handy for when I’m rushing around or just don’t want to cook.

I also got another product by the same company that I have not yet tried: A chick’n breast stuffed with corn and black beans. A bit more complicated, we’ll see how that one goes!

Note: for the second serving, I stirred in some of the leftover adobo sauce from the chipotles, which kicked it up aplenty! Then it was really good! Now I’m sold. I’ll definitely get more of these. I wish there were more food companies that didn’t load their products up with junk. I’m planning to try more items from It’s All Good.
