Delicious Finds in A Doctor’s Kitchen

It’s about time I tried someone else’s recipes for a change. The trouble is —  I’ll be first to admit it — I know only a few healthy cooking sites that I really like. They tend to either miss the mark as far as my expectations for taste, or else they don’t meet my high nutritional standards. Recently though, I met Dr. Deborah Chud through FoodBuzz, and was thrilled to discover her website, A Doctor’s Kitchen.  She has some irresistible recipes posted (more on that shortly), and shares a wealth of cooking knowledge through video tutorials and articles. It’s a great resource, so head over and check it out!

The recipe that caught my eye on FoodBuzz was Shrimp Marinara. I love this type of dish, but my normal shortcut is to buy a carefully selected bottled sauce to start with. Deborah’s version detailed the process for making the marinara sauce as well, and even though I’d never done this type of thing before, I decided it sounded foolproof and gave it a try.  To report back, the results were phenomenal! I can now say I don’t think I’ll have to waste any more time eyeing pasta sauce labels to find brands without added sugar, funky cheap oils, or extra preservatives. From now on, it’s Dr. Chud’s marinara all the way.  If making marinara sauce sounds intimidating to you, don’t let it! It was a hundred times easier than I expected. You don’t need to peel tomatoes OR have an Italian grandma. Just go to her site, view the step by step directions, find great advice on purchasing the best ingredients, and impress a dinner guest or date with the best-tasting sauce that’s ever graced your palate.

My second experiment from A Doctor’s Kitchen was her Fennel with Garlic and Parsley. And no, I’d never had fennel before either. But nothing breeds confidence like success, and after the Shrimp Marinara I was ready to try anything Dr. Chud suggested. Again, I learned a handy new low-fat technique (foil-roasting in the oven) and enjoyed healthy new flavors. (Who knew the humble fennel bulb was so good?)

Stay tuned for more collaborations with Deborah, the best is yet to come!
